Bag Watch: I love this bucket bag! Did you pick this up since it was super popular in the last few years?
Amelia: I bought it maybe two springs ago because the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag trend was huge at the time.
BW: How did you specifically choose this bag from all the other bucket bags on the market?
Amelia: I randomly stumbled upon it at J.Crew one weekend and it was on sale. I’m a sucker for a good deal and it was a style that I had been eyeing for some time – so it was a no-brainer for me to buy. A win-win situation!
BW: What do you like most about bucket bags and do you find this to be functional and versatile?
Amelia: I think it’s a great spring/summer bag. It’s versatile in the sense that it can pair well with almost any warmer-weather outfit and it’s convenient because you don’t really need to constantly open and close the bag. But the ties around the bag help maintain some aspect of closure.
BW: Are there any major downsides about this bag?
Amelia: I think because this is a “cheaper” bag, the quality is lacking. After two years of wear, the edges are fraying and I’m not 100% sure that this was made with genuine leather, even if the website says it was. The only other downside is that it isn’t large enough for me to fit my regular wallet in it. I’m all about practicality, so the easier something makes my life, the better. If I didn’t need to switch to a card holder with this bag it would be perfect.
BW: What kind of outfits do you usually find yourself pairing with this bag?
Amelia: Like I mentioned earlier, definitely more summery or warmer-weather outfits. I think the color, the tassels, and just the overall style allude to a spring vibe. But also, because it’s a neutral color, it goes well with almost any outfit, which is something I love about it. It’s definitely versatile for everyday use, but more so in a more casual setting.
BW: What do you think of J.Crew’s quality in general? In recent years, the quality of their products have come under a lot of scrutiny.
Amelia: When I first started shopping at J.Crew years ago, I had higher expectations of its quality. It’s fairly pricey for what you get and especially now, the more I’ve shopped there, the more I realize that the quality is actually quite lacking. I would not have expected for this bag to start fraying, after even just a year of moderate use. But, since I got this specific purchase on sale, at least at 40% off, I’m relatively happy with the purchase and have received a handful of compliments on it.
